Whether you are looking for an easy stroll or a more challenging hike, hiking in the Lot reveals a wide variety of landscapes that inspire both adventure and relaxation. Here are some of our favourite routes for discovering the beauty and diversity of this remarkable region.
Hiking Routes for Every Level
The Lot is a true paradise for hikers, with well-marked trails suited to every ability, from leisurely family walks to multi-day adventures. Circular routes are plentiful, carefully maintained and easy to access, allowing visitors to explore the region at their own pace, whether they prefer an active hike or a more contemplative experience.
The Malbec Trail
The village of Saint-Vincent-Rive-d’Olt marks the starting point of a delightful journey through some of the Lot’s most iconic landscapes. This perfectly signposted 12-kilometre loop follows the banks of the Bondoire stream before crossing a vast forest. Hillsides, vineyards and truffle groves typical of the Quercy plateau create magnificent scenery. It is an ideal introduction to the landscapes and charming villages that line the Lot Valley.

The Hillside Trail
Starting from Parnac, this easy 7-kilometre walk winds gently through sun-drenched hillsides dotted with Malbec vineyards, dry-stone walls and oak-lined paths. Accessible to all, the route gradually reveals the rural heritage of the Lot. From the very first steps, the charm is undeniable, with the Romanesque church of Cels setting the tone.
The Viewpoint Trail
Short but demanding, this route is perfect for walkers seeking spectacular scenery and a touch of adventure. The reward? Stunning views in just four kilometres. The climb leads to the heights of the Quercy plateau, where limestone outcrops and dry grasslands create a distinctive landscape. On clear days, the striking contrasts of colour provide exceptional viewpoints over the surrounding countryside. The more technical descent adds an adventurous dimension to this rewarding loop. This hike can easily be combined with a day spent exploring Cahors and its highlights.
